Nov2020- Monthly Finance and portfolio dividend/interest update

In the month of Nov, my monthly dividend/interest received is around 2.4k. This is one of the lowest monthly passive income received in the last 4 years. This is pretty much due to re-balancing of my portfolio in 2020 to cut most of my riskier counters. In replacement, I have bought mostly large cap index stock from LSE and HKSE. I believe these purchase will bear fruit next year as they are showing strong rebound in stock price and provide a more resilient dividend. In comparison to last month, my portfolio rebound by more than 60k and reduce my YTD unrealized loss to 2.9% without factoring in my dividend. With dividend, my YTD portfolio will still be positive.

My YTD dividend/interest received from my investment is about $51.7K. Currently , I am still projecting a full year of 56k dividend with one more month left in 2020. Throughout 2020, I sold off some of my riskier investment and incur a realized loss of 35k .  I should be able to maintain positive return for year 2020 with probably one more big write off (Lippo Mall reit) before end of the year. The entire 2020 pandemic crisis actually taught me a lesson to buy only quality company and not to chase after high yield.

I have another bond worth 5K USD that was called this month. It is creating a headache for me as I could not find any bond to reinvest. Due to the record high bond market, bond yield rate like our bank deposit interest has been dismally low. The return from bond investment is so low that it is out weighting the risk.

With the extra cash I have received from callable bonds in the last 2 months. I continue to add some dividend stocks like Fortune Reit (HKSE) and GSK (LSE) as they have been providing attractive and safe yield.  I also bought around SGD10k  of CICT and SGD10K of UtdHampshire reit. In total, I have put in around $256k for 2020 investment while selling about $240k..I hope to build a more robust portfolio for 2021 and beyond to raise my dividend.interest income to go beyond 60k per annual.

Oct2020- Monthly Finance update -Dividend/Interest received $5.2K

In the month of Oct, my passive income earned is steady at $5.2k. This bring my YTD dividend/interest received from my investment account to $49.5K. One of my counter Accordia was also delisted this month and I made a profit of 8.3k and a capital return of 30K. The profit from Accordia has help to cut my earlier realized loss that occur in March when I sell off some of my riskier investment to 33k . My portfolio has been in the red throughout the year but the dividend collected with realized gain from Accordia delisting, I should be able to maintain positive return for year 2020 barring anymore write off before end of the year.

In the previous month, I received about 26k USD from the proceed of callable bonds. Of which, I recycle about 23K of my new capital into two new positions (Power Assets Holdings and Link REIT) listed on HKEX and increase my BTI stake to 500 shares. This is my first foray into HK listed stocks as they are providing attractive and safe yield compare to some REITs listed on SGX which have been cutting dividend.

I will have another two bonds worth 10K USD that will be called next month. It is creating a headache for me as I could not find any bond to reinvest. Due to the record high bond market, bond yield rate like our bank deposit interest has been dismally low. The return from bond investment is so low that it is out weighting the risk.

Sep 2020- Monthly Passive Income update -Dividend/Interest received $6.8K

Another wild swing in the stock market on the month of September. However, it did recover toward the end of the month. I tally my dividend/interest received and I was surprised that it hit 6.8K. It does feel like a bonus month as some of my financial stocks listed in UK/EU restored their dividend and give my portfolio dividend a nice bump. My YTD dividend received from my investment account hit 44K which basically covered all my earlier realized loss that occur in March when I sell off some of my riskier investment.

Monthly Dividend/Interest earned Y-to-Y changes from 2017 to 2020:

I have another 4 bonds being called. 2 of them are from Prudential Finance and there were my favorite investment grade bond which offer good yield and a lot of stability to my portfolio throughout the turbulent year of 2020.  I will be receiving a total of 26k USD cash from these called bond. Due to the record high bond market, bond yield rate like our bank deposit interest has been dismally low and I could not find any bond to reinvest. I have used the extra cash from the bond call to purchase 3 dividend stocks listed on LSE (BATS, GSK and LGEN). I also initialed a position on Hong Kong Land as the dividend yield is almost 6%.  Currently, I find the valuation of Hong Kong land very attractive compare to all the Reits listed on SGX which have been cutting dividend. I am keeping my finger cross that all the dividends from my recent purchase to replace my bond will be safe.

Aug 2020- Monthly Passive Income update -Dividend/Interest received $4.2K(YOY drop of 35%!!)

It's time for another monthly tally of dividend/interest received from my portfolio. In the month of Aug, my monthly passive income collected is around $4.2k. Compare to 2019 Aug, the dividend/interest collected from my stock/bond portfolio is down by around $2.2K which is a year to year 35% plunge!! This is due to dividend suspension/cut that affected almost every dividend investors.
Monthly Dividend/Interest earned Y-to-Y changes from 2017 to 2020:

We continued to see great recovery in the US market that actually hit a record high despite having the worst pandemic crisis. The recovery is not broad based as it has only benefit the tech sectors in the US. Meanwhile , most of the sectors like real estate, consumers, retail and travel etc are still performing poorly across the global markets. My reit and O&G counters continue to underperform. However, my US bonds portfolio has hit a record high as well. This has help me to reduce my paper loss to -6.95% compare to last month -8.5%.

I have another bond being called. Due to the record high bond market, bond yield rate like our bank deposit interest has been dismally low and I could not find any bond to reinvest. I have used the extra cash from the bond call to purchase 2 dividend stocks listed on LSE instead..Keeping my finger cross that both dividends will be safe.

My liquid networth continued to increase by another 1.7% in Aug contributed by improving financial market and salary contribution. My overall dividend yield has dropped to 5.84% after accounting all the dividend cut and suspension.
