Jan 2022 Finance update - Monthly Dividend/Interest received $5k

January Dividend/interest received is about SGD $5k.

YTD Investment gain/loss: 2.5%
YTD Networth growth: 0.43%

January Investment gain is flat due to drag down by SGX Reits and networth growth mainly from salary saved and  dividend/interest received. Not a bad outcome as January markets was really turbulent with threat of rising interest rate.

Another bond was called and released USD12.5K of cash flow. I converted them to HKD and have increased my investment in a few HKSE dividend stocks in January with 10K USD on 8.hk, 5k USD on 1313.hk and 6.2k USD on 2386.hk. All three HKSE dividend stocks have 8% or more yield. I have also invested 1k CAD on ZWC.TO which is a Canadian bank ETF with call option.

On the SGX side, I have added about 9.5k SGD Ascendas I-Trust. With SGX Reits down to 52 weeks low, I will start increasing my stakes in the coming months.

The new investment will boost my annual dividend income close to 76K in 2022.

Dec 2021 Finance update - Monthly Dividend/Interest received $4.9k and Annual Total $74.3K

December Dividend/interest received is about SGD $4.9k and this brings my 2021 annual dividend/interest income to $74.3K. Total 2021 return is $140K. 2021 investment income received increased by 26% compared to 2020 and it was the highest since I took up dividend investment from 2016. From my annual Dividend/Interest Income chart in the last 10 years,  it can be seen that my saving return was languishing at low 10k annually prior to 2016.  My current investment portfolio yield is around 6%.

I have been increasing my investment (about 60k) in dividend stocks throughout Oct to Dec during the market downturn, I am projecting my investment income to hit 77k in 2022. As I still have significant cash holding and cash flow from my dividend, I will be looking for more opportunities in 2022 to add more dividend stocks to boost my investment income up to 80k .

2021 investment portfolio total return including dividend received is around 8.9% . This is more or less within my expectation as my investment strategy is to get stable passive income after retirement. While my US bond and LSE portfolios are doing ok in 2021, my investment overall performance was still dragged down by HKSE counters which contribute 22% of my portfolio. Another drag was a complete write off of EHT from my SGX portfolio after it declared bankrupt this year with unitholders equity completely wiped off.  Since the 2020 covid crisis hit my portfolio hard, I have since taken drastic steps to reduce high risk low quality stocks from my portfolio by selling off almost 500k in 2020 and replacing them with the same amount of more stable index dividend stocks. My current investment portfolio now consist of 75% companies with investment grade credit rating. This action has help me to obtain a more sustainable dividend income and stable capital appreciation in 2021.

Lastly, my liquid net worth (excluding CPF and properties) has increased by 14% in 2021.

NOV2021 Finance update - Monthly Dividend/Interest received $2.9k

November is usually a slow month for my income portfolio. Dividend/interest received is about SGD $2.9k and year to date dividend/interest income hit 68.9K. With 1 more months to go, I will be receiving > 70k total dividend/interest income for the full year exceeding my 2021 target.

However, my YTD portfolio return took a big hit toward the end of November as stock markets around the world took a big hit from a new Covid variant Omicron and FED talk of tapering. Overall portfolio return including dividend received is around 7.31% , a drop of 2% or a whopping $28k drop in just 1 month.

With the recent market crash, I continue to add another 17kUSD of BTI and MO which are currently giving an attractive yield on cost >8%. Basically, I am parking my cash in these tobacco stocks with sustainable high yield. The way I see it,  their dividend yield is so high now, that even if the stock price falls further, with the dividend payouts received, it is a reasonable bet that I'll recover the total investment cost after a couple of years.

I also bought a couple of SGX reits like MIT and FCT. All these investment will boost my dividend income to more than 75k in 2022.

Oct2021 Finance update - Monthly Dividend/Interest received $6.6k

In the month of Oct, dividend/interest received is about SGD $6.6K and year to date dividend/interest income hit 66K. With 2 more months to go, I am projecting to receive more than 70k dividend/interest income for the full year.  My YTD portfolio return including dividend received is around 9.41%.

As my cash holding increase substantially due to dividend received, I will be adding a few more counter or increase my stake in current portfolio in the coming month as long as yield on cost is attractive.

I added more BTI which yield >8% . While there is a negative sentiment against tobacco stock due to regulatory pressure,  BTI has proven that it has been able to increase revenue and dividend annually. Its FCF yield is as high as 11% and with a 65% dividend payout, I think it is much safer to buy than reits. I also initiated a new HKSE stock CITIC which has around 7% yield after checking its 5 years financial results that have been positive. Its stock price is in a depressing mode at almost 5 years low due to poor market condition with HKSE/China stocks. Based on its 2021 half year result, I believe its dividend yield will be increasing again in 2022.

Sep2021 Finance update - Monthly Dividend/Interest received $8.6k Highest in 5 years

In the month of Sep, dividend/interest received is about SGD $8.6K hitting the highest level in last 5 years and Q32021 dividend/interest income total 24K.. Year to date dividend/interest income hit 60K with 3 more months to go.

I sold off China Construction 3311.hk after it went up >30% but the gain was offset by a 35% loss in a recent HKSE IPO which I sold off. My mistake was that I deviated from my normal strategy on investing in only large cap dividend stock. I should never invest in this IPO and not cutting loss earlier. Well , mistake learnt not to speculate on something I don't know.

My YTD investment return including dividend received is around 9.06%. It was lower than last month despite the record dividend received. This was due to a market correction in Sep which hit global markets and especially hard on HKSE stocks. I picked up 2 new investment PingAn 2318.hk and Tainneng 819.hk during the HKSE market correction. They provide stable yield and have been a market leader in their respective industry  I also bought 2 new SGX Reits counters CLCT and Elite. Elite Reit is to replace Manulife which was sold off last month.

As my cash holding increase substantially due to dividend received, I will probably add a few more counter or increase my stake in current portfolio during Oct. It is better to buy during a market crash to improve the yield on cost as a dividend investor.

Aug2021 Finance update - Monthly Dividend/Interest received $7.6 k

In the month of Aug, dividend/interest received is about SGD $7.6K with 1.2k coming from the last Accordia distribution. I sold off China Power 2380.hk after it went up >50% and one of my bond holding Ingram Micro was redeemed. Both transactions ended up netting a gain of USD $7.34k. I bought China Power for its 8% dividend but for some reason , it went up sharply. The gain itself is like more than 6 years of dividend. Usually, I am a buy and hold long term investor. However, I realized that HKSE China counter even for a slow moving dividend stock could suddenly spike and then crash. As I wrote last week, my HKSE portfolio went from ytd 15% gain to current 0% in Jul. I did not take any action on a few counter which went up 50% like CNOOC and Sino Engr before crashing down in Jul. In view of that, I think it is a good idea to take some profit off these counters and buy them back at a lower price. On the hindsight, China power continue to go up another 30%. Well , I am a contented person so I am still satisfied with the 50% gain.  With both the dividend income and trading gain, my investment income hit $17.8k this month resulting in the best monthly return in the last 4 years. With the proceed, I  continue to increase my stake in current HKSE and LSE portfolio. My YTD investment return include dividend received is around 9.4%.

Jul2021 Finance update - Monthly Dividend/Interest received $7.8k but portfolio valuation gain decrease by $18K

In the month of Jul, dividend/interest received is about 7.8K , this is the highest July investment income recorded in the last 4 years. However, my ytd portfolio gain decrease by $18k  this month due to sharp correction on my HKSE holding. My portfolio have been hitting all time high every month since Jan and I have already anticipated correction could be coming soon. The only saving grace is that I received a good amount of dividend to weather the storm. Even though, my holding in China Tech stock is relatively small but the entire HKSE index was badly impacted by the HKSE Tech Stocks crashed. My HKSE holding went from an ATH unrealized gain of 15% to 0% within a short 3 months.  This shows how volatile overseas stock market can be. However, as most of my holding are large cap state own money with good dividend, I am confident the portfolio value will recover again. I continue to increase my stake in current HKSE holding with my dividend received.
